Depart: 9am Arrive: 11:15am
- passed through the National Portrait Gallery and saw an enormous painting of L.L. Cool J, as well as the aptly titled exhibit "The American Experience"
- went to the National Gallery and found Sam's favorite Monet, a painting of his mother; basked in what Roman called the "grandeur" of the high ceilings, fountains, plants, and air conditioning inside
- briefly stopped in the Botanical Gardens to walk through the "jungle" room
- approached the Capitol building and looked the length of the Mall at the Washington Monument
- made the long trek to the Monument, stopping at the Air and Space Museum on the way for some relief from the heat and a chance to tank up again; got yelled at for lying on the floor inside
- met some toddlers on the path up to the Washington Monument that quickly befriended us
- hiked down to the Lincoln Memorial; curled around back to view the Potomac River
- passed the White House; were thoroughly outraged by the large viewing distance required
- found two Geocache sites (http://www.geocaching.com/), at Sidney Harman Hall and Calvary Baptist Church
- went to Sam's cousin's (Tyler) house before heading to dinner at Bill Cosby's favorite restaurant, Ben's Chili Bowl - delicious "smoke house" dogs and milkshakes
- watched the Celtics blow game 5 back at Tyler's house
